We Are 10!
I feel extremely privileged to have spent much of the last decade working in this fantastic organisation – and what a decade it has been! It’s hard to single out specific highlights, but if pushed, for me they would include Scottish Opera’s Ring Cycle (October 2003), the legendary Kirov performing Marius Petipa’s masterpiece La Bayadère (May 2003), and Druid Theatre Company’s wonderful The Cripple of Innishmaan (November 2008), but with so much choice – ask me again tomorrow and I will probably choose a different three!
It’s been fantastic to see the range and breadth of our programme receiving critical acclaim and capturing the public imagination. This success is reflected in the fact that The Lowry has welcomed around 800,000 visitors each year since opening. All this has only been made possible by the commitment, passion and creativity of the staff of The Lowry and those who work with us, and by you our audience, we are grateful to all of you.
The Lowry exists to enrich people’s lives and to contribute to the creative well-being of the people of Salford and the region. This was our founding mission and is at the heart of our present ambitions. 2010 will see The Lowry celebrate 10 years on Salford Quays with these values very much reflected in our programme. Throughout the next year, you can enjoy exhibitions from internationally renowned artists like Spencer Tunick, you can get involved in our largest ever community and engagement project Unlocking Salford Quays, you can bring your family to our family festival in June and join in our birthday celebrations, and – as ever – you can come and see performances from some of the best companies from around the world.
It’s going to be a great 2010 and I look forward to sharing it with you.
