Community and Education at The Lowry
The Lowry is a spectacular building animated by exciting theatres and galleries programmes, bringing national and international artists and companies of the highest standard to the region and providing access to a unique blend of excellence and innovation in the arts.
The Community and Education Team is charged with the responsibility of engaging the local and regional communities. We have developed a programme which offers everyone access to creative experiences, not just as spectators, but also as participants and creators.
Working in conjunction with the galleries and theatres programmes and in partnership with visiting artists and companies, the Community and Education Team offer a wide range of in-house and outreach activities that are accessible, entertaining, educational and inspiring.
The work of the department covers formal education and projects with primary and secondary schools, engaging over 8,000 school children each year; informal arts activities; short courses and weekend masterclasses in both the performing and visual arts. We also create performances and exhibitions with members of our local community which are presented in the theatres and galleries.
