Out of Space: Reshaping Salford’s Skyline – 2004
As part of the Fantasy Architecture exhibition pupils from St Patrick’s RC High School and Arts College, Eccles, along with a selection of pupils from its feeder Primary schools, worked with an architectural designer, Jack Doyle exploring the scenario that Salford is running out of land to build houses on. The pupils were spilt in to three groups and each was given an individual brief to find alternative ways of building. They focused on three different architectural sites in Salford and the structures they developed were a residential bridge, a tall tower and a quay of floating homes. The models made by the groups were tested to decide on the most successful structure. The final designs were then created as 3D sculptures to produce a striking and innovative exhibition.
