Stepping Stones - 2006
Using The Lowry exhibition, The Art of White, as a starting point, pupils from St Patrick’s RC High School and Arts College and its five feeder primary schools, worked with artist Jack Doyle on the Stepping Stones project. The high school worked with a class from each of the primary schools to design and produce twenty concrete art pavements, each one metre in diameter. Fifteen of the art pavements were installed into a regenerated area of St Patrick’s called the White Garden. Each of the remaining five pavements went to the primary schools, creating a physical and metaphorical bridge between the six schools, something that the primary school children will recognise in their transition from primary to high school. The high school then produced a twenty foot painted mural to accompany the concrete artworks in the White Garden, creating a quiet, contemplative space in the school playground.
