Community and Education
Salford is the 4th most deprived local authority area in the North West and the 28th in the UK. As the sole arts provider of its kind in the city, The Lowry is well-placed to deliver a life-changing creative programme in the unique, multi-arts education environment – the Studio.
Community Art Each year, we develop a project where professional artists work local community to create work for exhibition at The Lowry. This year’s project Worktown focuses on photography and documenting the local environment. Participants learn professional photographic techniques and at the same grow in confidence and self esteem. Sponsors can make a real difference to people’s lives by supporting this project, as well as benefit from positive publicity and media coverage.
Community Theatre This annual programme of theatre training and performance for local people works with those with no previous theatre experience, enabling them to reach a professional standard and present work to the public at The Lowry. The 2004 project Love on the Dole was shown as a documentary for Granada TV. The resulting performances received widespread critical acclaim and played to sell-out audiences in the Lyric Theatre over 9 nights.
Outreach Programme Walkabout our Salford outreach programme enables us to take the finest performers and arts practitioners to work in some of the most deprived communities in the UK. The Lowry is committed tp social inclusion and as such works intensively in schools and with the local community delivering creative programmes which make productive use of people’s free time, raise aspirations and broaden people’s horizons. This project is ideal for sponsors wishing to make a real impact in the community at grass roots level.
