What our patrons think.
Michael and Joan Henderson, Silver Patrons at The Lowry “The opening of The Lowry six years ago was a particular delight to us from the beginning, especially with Paris Opera Ballet's famous Bayadere as the first offering. As avid ballet-goers and admirers of LS Lowry's work it immediately became obvious, even after the heady days of the opening that this stylish new venue was going to continue providing facilities greatly to our taste. Indeed, with the excellent restaurant, spacious front of house area, bars, theatres and galleries, it seemed almost too good to be true. With the transfer to The Lowry of Birmingham Royal Ballet and Opera North, not to mention the very wide range of other productions including stand-up comedy and popular music, our expectations were more than fulfilled and we soon became very frequent visitors.
Some kind of Friends scheme always seemed to us a desirable development and we did suggest it on one occasion. Having always subscribed to a policy of supporting organisations which we regard as national treasures, we were delighted when the Patrons' scheme was announced earlier this year. It has already given us an enhanced feeling of being more closely involved and we very much look forward to backstage tours of both the theatre and the LS Lowry collection.
We sincerely hope that this exciting new development will ensure that many more people in the North West will enjoy becoming more closely involved with this precious local asset, as we have.”
Mr & Mrs Melzak, Bronze Patrons at The Lowry “We became Patrons because we have been coming to the Lowry very frequently for all sorts of reasons, love the huge range of arts events on offer and think its a fantastic building. We also love the way Lowry's work is displayed, the exciting use of different themes and fresh ways of exploring his work, and have found the other exhibitions complement the Lowry collection. We were also very impressed by the involvement of volunteers from the Manchester/Salford community in running the place. We feel The Lowry is a really forward looking and thoughtful arts venue. It is visually stimulating, comfortable, welcoming and a real pleasure to visit.
Then the welcome evening in January showed us so much of the educational and outreach work that goes on behind the scenes with the local community which was a real eye-opener and made us feel very strongly we would like to support the development of everything the Lowry does. It is a unique place.
The benefits of being Patrons, for us, have been a simplified booking system with a personal service meeting all our requests, advance booking which means we have got tickets for things that would have sold out, and the feeling we have begun to make relationships with many of the staff at the Lowry. The behind the scenes tours are an especially interesting way to make us feel even more closely connected. The recent archive tour made us feel very privileged indeed, able to talk face to face with the curator and conservator, see works close at hand, discuss ideas and find out interesting historical details as well as learning about the issues for conservation of the drawings and paintings. The discount for the restaurant means we eat there more often which is good for all of us! All in all we are very proud and delighted to be patrons of The Lowry”.
