The Eric Simm Award
Are you aged 16 – 25 and a budding actor or dancer?
If so, you may be eligible for the Eric Simm Award, a grant of up to £5,000 to help cover the costs of your performing arts study.
The Salford Arts and Sports Trust, with help from The Lowry, is awarding grants to talented actors and dancers with bags of creative ambition. To qualify for the award, you must have been born and educated in the City of Salford or its neighbouring boroughs of Manchester, Bolton, Bury or Trafford and be between the ages of 16 and 25 in September 2008.
Every year, The Salford Arts and Sports Trust make £5,000 available to The Lowry Trust to be awarded to Salford residents in accordance with the relevant criteria. Salford born Artist Harold Riley (Chairman of the Trust) and actor Albert Finney (President) were so impressed with The Lowry’s commitment to the local community that they nominated the venue to manage the Eric Simm Award, in memory of the former Headmaster of Salford Grammar School, who strongly encouraged the dramatic and visual arts.
In 2007, the Eric Simm Award was presented to an aspiring visual artist - nineteen year old Peter Richardson from Salford. Peter used the much-needed £3,500 to help pay for his Animation degree at Edge Hill University, a costly subject in regards to study materials. Runner up Emily Wood’s award of £1,500 enabled her to explore the theme of movement in multi cultural dance and costume. We wish them well in their exciting future ahead.
To enter, please write to us at the address below, telling us about yourself and how winning the award would help you to pursue your career. Please also enclose a CV or details of your prior experience, together with a full name, address, phone number and email address.
The deadline for applications is Fri 22 August 2008 and we will hold auditions for shortlisted entrants in early September 2008.
