The construction of The Lowry was funded from public sources listed below, the ongoing running of the organisation is largely unsupported. Although The Lowry is on a sound financial footing, like any arts project, it remains challenging to maintain the quantity and quality in everything that we do, without any additional support. Consequently there is a need for The Lowry to fund itself and its growing activities through its earnings, sponsorship and donations.

The Lowry, the Plaza, the Footbridge, Digital World Centre, access routes and transport infrastructure will be totally complete in 2003 at a cost of £120 million.

Funding for the Project came from:

National Lottery Distributors:

  • Arts Council of England
  • The Millennium Commission
  • Heritage Lottery Fund
Other sources including:
  • European Regional Development Fund
  • English Partnerships
  • Salford City Council
  • Trafford Park Development Corporation
  • EDS
Other sources/private sector
  • The Founder Partner Sponsor of The Lowry is EDS
  • The Digital World Centre is being built as a joint venture between The Lowry Centre
  • Development Company Ltd and Charterhouse Property Group

EDS - The First Founder Partner Of The Lowry

EDS is the UK's largest information technology services company, providing solutions for complex business issues for businesses and governments. The five year £2 million sponsorship deal of The Lowry Project is also one of the UK's largest commercial sponsorships of the Arts, providing a total of £400,000 worth of support each year to The Lowry arts complex and the Digital World Centre. The sponsorship will take the form of a technology partnership, providing IT infrastructure and services.

"The Lowry and the Digital World Centre together form the most prestigious creative development in the UK," said Alan Stevens, chairman of EDS UK. "As a company with a presence in most major cities, we are particularly proud to be associated with such a successful national project outside London."

EDS is ranked first in the Computer Services and Software category on 1999's FORTUNE Global 500 list. EDS's end-to-end portfolio of services integrate four business lines:

Management Consultancy - provided by A T Kearney, the world's second-largest high-value management consultancy, focusing primarily on CEO-level concerns and offers a full spectrum of services from strategy to executive search services.

E.Solutions - consultancy and solutions that enhance the performance of the extended enterprise. EDS use web-based technology to streamline business processes.

Business Process Management - looks at the strategic outsourcing of one or more business processes or functions to an external provider to improve overall business performance.

Information Solutions - often called outsourcing, includes network and Internet operations, data and applications management and field services. EDS offers defined repeatable processes, expertise and the ability to integrate existing web-based technologies.
