Past Community and Education Projects
When The Lowry opened in 2000, it did so with a Community Festival that featured a selection of work produced by The Lowry's Community and Education Team, in collaboration with professional artists, community groups and local people.
We worked in partnership with The Big Issue in the North to create a billboard exhibition that was unveiled on The Lowry Plaza on the day we opened (28 April 2000) and the opening production in the theatres was a large-scale collaboration that brought some of Britain's most exciting theatre makers together with a cast of over 200 people, to celebrate the launch of the building.
Ranging from absolute beginners to seasoned old hands, the opening festival was a celebration of collaboration and creativity. The work generated, and the relationships forged from our opening celebrations continue to be built upon and you can find a selection of the other projects that we have undertaken listed below.
