Opera North
Don Carlos
Sat 6 June
This event has passed.
Don Carlos is Verdi’s most ambitious work – a towering masterpiece of political opera.
Set in France and Spain in the 16th century it demonstrates how love, loyalty and friendship are liable to be crushed by the harsh imperatives of power. Verdi’s overwhelming score is rich in colour and emotionally compelling, combining grandeur with intimacy.
Tim Albery’s Opera North production is itself a classic – a staging of probing psychological depth and visual sumptuousness.
