John Cooper Clarke is the Bard of Salford and, possibly the funniest man in showbiz. His poetry is from the street and his jokes from the working mens clubs. He began performing around Manchester as opener for bands such as Buzzcocks, the Fall and Joy Division, in the punk era and hasn't stopped since.
His rapid fire delivery can be heard, backed by The Invisible Girls, on classic albums such as Snap Crackle and Bop, and his book and film Ten Years In an Open Necked Shirt. His best known tracks include Evidently Chicken Town and Beasley Street. Both observations on the grimness of growing up in post war Salford.
JCC has been namechecked as a massive influence by the Arctic Monkeys and his works introduced to a whole new generation of fans. John is the rightful headliner to the first Salford Festival of Music Comedy!
