NEW PRODUCTION The satire cuts deeper in Let ‘em eat cake, the sequel to Of Thee I Sing.
It’s been four years since John P. Wintergreen became President, and his re-election campaign is in full swing. This time, however, the voters aren’t falling for his smooth slogans. As the political situation spirals out of control, measures become increasingly desperate and before you know it, the US is facing a revolutionary dictatorship of blue shirts! The score signals a deepening of Gershwin’s art, at times anticipating his operatic masterpiece Porgy and Bess, and demonstrating that not only did he have the rare popular gift of a brilliant songwriter but that he was also simply one of the greatest composers of the 20th century.
Casts include:
Wintergreen - William Dazeley
Mary Turner - Bibi Heal
Throttlebottom - Steven Beard
Conductor Wyn Davies
Director Caroline Gawn
Choreographer Maggie Rawlinson
Set Designer Tim Hopkins
Costume Designer Gabrielle Dalton
Lighting Designer Wolfgang GÖbbel
Sung in English
The performances lasts approximately 2 hours 45 minutes
