Opera North
Opera North: Katya Kabanova
Thu 21 June
This event has passed.
Suffocated by a narrow-minded small town society, Katya Kabanova, a married woman, is unable to resist temptation when it falls in her path. Janáček’s beautiful, utterly original score charts Katya’s tragedy with profound compassion and contains music as intense, lyrical and erotic as anything to be found in Strauss or Wagner.
“Tim Albery’s staging sets off a magnetic field of attraction between the main characters, and provides a powerful counterpoint to the welling emotions in the score” Financial Times
Conductor – Richard Farnes
Director – Tim Albery
