Opera North
Orfeo
Sat 3 March
This event has passed.
2007 is the 400th anniversary of this, the work with which Monteverdi more or less invented opera.
Grief-stricken after the death of his wife, the legendary musician Orfeo descends to the underworld in an attempt to return her to life.
Leading American director Christopher Alden stages this major new production for Opera North, which features Paul Nilon in the title role.
The orchestral ensemble will include all the exotic early instruments for which Monteverdi composed his extraordinarily rich score.
