A version of Shostakovich’s Cheryomushki, this brilliant comic satire on corrupt Party officialdom and the Soviet mania for urban planning was a surprise hit when it was first seen in the Spring of 2001.
The score veers from wildly tuneful dance music to lyrical ballads and all points in between. David Pountney’s big, bold, adventurous production exemplifies Opera North’s commitment to bring audiences exciting, unusual repertoire.
