When mild mannered Robin Oakapple is revealed as the villainous Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd, inheritor of the curse of Ruddigore which compels him to commit a crime a day, his romance with the faultlessly virtuous Rose Maybud looks doomed. But his troubles really start when he proves incapable of fulfilling the curse, and his ancestors' portraits begin to haunt him.

Gilbert and Sullivan's witty pastiche of Victorian melodrama is one of their most enjoyable and ingenious operettas. This new production has a distinctively Opera North freshness of approach, whilst fully respecting the spirit of G&S's topsy-turvy invention.

Sung in English.
