Opera North
Rusalka
Sat 29 November
This event has passed.
Rusalka counts among its sources Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid and Fouqué's Undine. The water nymph Rusalka yearns to be part of the human world, so she can be with her prince and learn about love. But in order to do so she is forced to make a terrible sacrifice.
The lyrical, poignant score is rightly famed for Rusalka's elegiac 'Song to the Moon', and the opera contains much music that is suffused with ethereal beauty. An exceptionally strong cast for this new production includes Giselle Allen, Stuart Skelton, Susannah Glanville and Susan Bickley.
Conducted by Martin Pickard.
Directed by Olivia Fuchs
