The Lowry’s in-house community dance company presents their latest work, Spaces, which has been created during a 9-week course.

Using The Lowry as a starting point, participants have taken inspiration from the architecture, galleries and theatres.

The result, which offers a range of inventive contemporary and creative movement, has been shaped in to a group choreography for this performance by Artistic Director and choreographer, Ruth Tyson-Jones.


Mon 5, 12, 19 & 26 January
Ad Hoc Dance 4-Week Taster
Different approaches to contemporary dance technique and creative work will be explored each week of this course with dancer/choreographer Ruth Tyson-Jones. Contemporary dance is a modern dance style using various techniques to enable a physical training of the whole body. This style does not involve a strict syllabus of steps – Ruth will lead the participants into a range of movements extending the body’s natural movement range. Contemporary dance also lends itself to encouraging creative work in which participants can learn skills of choreography alongside technique.
Please wear loose fitting clothing.
Suitable for intermediated levels aged 18+.

Ad Hoc Dance Spring Course
This 9-week course led by Ruth Tyson-Jones will include contemporary dance technique and creative movement. The starting point for this course will be The Lowry itself. Taking inspiration from the architecture, the Galleries and Theatres the participants will be led through some carefully crafted creative exercises. Their individual creative responses to the tasks, the resulting movement, will then be shaped in to a group choreography for performance on Mon 30 March. Loose fitting clothing required and bare feet.
Suitable for intermediate levels aged 18+.
