The Adventures of Mr Brouček
Thu 12 November
This event has passed.
This vibrantly original opera follows the fantastical adventures of Mr Brouček as he travels to worlds far beyond his imagination. On the moon he encounters strange, artistic creatures, after which he is whisked back in time, finding himself unwittingly involved in a 15th century Czech battle. Our hero is rather like an operatic Mr Benn, although his adventures seem to start and end in a beer barrel.
Janáček’s glorious music paints vivid pictures of Mr Brouček’s travels, conjuring unearthly extra-terrestrial sounds, Puccini-like romantic duets, and the stirring patriotism of battle songs.
Conductor Martin André.
Director John Fulljames.
Sung in English.
