Opera North
The Fortunes of King Croesus
Sat 17 November
This event has passed.
‘A true story of the inconstancy of earthly glory and riches’ - was how this astonishing opera was billed when it was first performed in 1730. Keiser, who was an important influence on Handel, skilfully blends the serious and the comic in an almost Shakespearean tale of war, love, disguise and the changing fortunes of a fabulously wealthy king. The result is an opera of glorious melody and invention.
Sung in English.
Conductor – Harry Bicket
Director – Tim Albery
