Don't Mind Me

They tell me there’s a world out there
Right on my doorstep
I just have to make the right choices

The second of two evenings hosted by So Many Words Theatre Company looking at disability arts.

This event will use Forum Theatre to explore the issues that young disabled people face during their transition from teenager to adulthood. Transitions for young people can often be far from straightforward, especially if that young person also has a disability.

During an economic time when social care provision is rapidly disappearing, we want to ask what society can do to ensure that this group is supported to make decisions and prosper into adulthood.

Don’t Mind Me has been entirely devised using the ideas and personal experiences of the participants involved and aims to highlight some of the issues that are most import to young people in today’s society. Alongside presentation, film and poetry, the group will ask important questions around this subject, and outline the importance of social care and support during this time.

Forum Theatre is an interactive form of theatre which uses physical action and roleplay to create strategies for dealing with problems and issues. It has been used by the members of So Many Words with great success for many years as a tool for problem-solving, decision-making and consultation.

Suitable for young people, people with disabilities, their families, parents/carers, teachers, social care workers, community and youth workers, or anyone who is interested in using theatre as a tool for debate and action.
