Music Benjamin Britten

Partner company, Birmingham Royal Ballet, return to The Lowry with what will be one of the most exciting premieres of 2014.

David Bintley's choreography, Benjamin Britten's music and Rae Smith (War Horse)'s designs combine in a reworking of a classic fairytale, celebrating the power of family love.

Through her childhood Sakura mourns her brother's death and the disintegration of her father the Emperor, whose wicked new wife takes control of his kingdom. Forced to act when presented with four powerful and wealthy suitors, she throws herself on the mercy of a fifth – a scaly Salamander, but Sakura’s adventure has only just begun.
