At the creative helm is The Royal Exchange’s Artist Director Braham Murray OBE, Bernstein’s lush musical score will be performed by The Hallé Orchestra*, conducted by their Musical Director, Mark Elder.

Connie Fisher, star of The Sound of Music and winner of the BBC’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, plays aspiring writer Ruth Sherwood who arrives in New York with her beautiful younger sister Eileen. The indomitable pair meet an array of colourful characters along the way, creating chaos at every turn in their search for romance, success and a free meal at Walgreens deli.

Wonderful Town first premièred in New York in 1953 where it won five Tony Awards including Best Musical. The 2003 revival also won further Tony and Drama Desk Awards.

Sat 31 March – Sat 14 April performances will be conducted by Mark Elder with the exception of the matinee on Sat 7 April, which will be conducted by Robert Houssart.

Mon 16 – Sat 21 April performances will be conducted by Wonderful Town’s Musical Director James Burton. The music for these performances will be played by a 17-piece orchestra featuring Halle musicians.
