The Lowry - A New Destination

The Lowry, National Landmark Millennium Project for the Arts, is a recently opened and breathtaking new visitor attraction. Set in a spectacular location at the heart of Manchester’s waterways on Salford Quays, it brings together the visual and performing arts under one roof.

The Lowry houses two theatres, numerous gallery spaces and Artworks, a unique interactive attraction designed to encourage individual creativity. Situated on a spectacular promontory, The Lowry is a waterfront home for the arts, entertainment and innovation.

An architectural flagship, often described as “Salford’s Guggenheim”, the building is attracting thousands of tourists in its own right. The Lowry is free to enter and open all day, every day. The Lowry is there to be discovered, explored and enjoyed, offering plenty of opportunity for repeat visits.

Visitors spend anything from half an hour having a cup of coffee to a full day exploring the galleries, restaurants and Artworks - not to mention an evening of entertainment in the theatres. Artworks provides an interactive and fun experience encouraging everyone to explore their creative side in visuals, sound, music, movement and words.

At the heart of The Lowry’s Galleries is the work of LS Lowry himself, arguably one of Britain’s most popular and yet genuinely profound artists of 20th century. Viewing LS Lowry’s work will always be FREE, as will many of the significant exhibitions running alongside the main collection.

The Lowry’s two theatres are drawing some of the biggest names in the business and some of the brightest new talents. Offering something for everyone, the programme includes a full range of drama, opera, ballet, dance, musicals, children’s shows, popular music, jazz, folk and comedy.
