Chance for North West Children to Exhibit at The Lowry
Children from across the North West are being given the chance to exhibit work in The Lowry, one of the country’s newest and most prestigious art centres.
This opportunity is one of the prizes in a writing and art competition launched by Royal Mail to celebrate new stamps and to mark a sponsorship partnership with the Salford gallery and theatre complex.
And the lucky first prize winner will also be awarded £1,000 worth of books or computer equipment for their school.
The competition - “North West Cats and Dogs” - is open to all children aged between five and 11 years living in the region. The youngsters are being invited to write about their cat or dog (or one belonging to a friend or relative) and to submit their story together with an illustration or photograph they have taken of the pet.
The best entries will be displayed in one of the galleries at The Lowry for a month from February 13th - the day Royal Mail issues a set of ten self-adhesive 1st Class stamps featuring cats and dogs.
The children’s work will go on show close to an exhibition of work by L.S. Lowry - many of which feature his famous cats and dogs.
The competition kicks off the start of Royal Mail’s sponsorship of The Lowry’s Writer in Residence programme which will include a family fun day next month.
“We are delighted to be able to support The Lowry with this venture as it links in with our national literacy sponsorship theme for this year,” said Lorraine Whitehouse, Head of PR in the North West.
“We felt that a competition which encourages children to both write and be visually creative would be an excellent way to start off our literacy programme in the region. I hope that children across the region will jump at the chance to exhibit in a centre which honours the work of the famous Salford artist L.S. Lowry,” she added.
