The Mayfair of The North

The Lowry is the ‘Mayfair of the North’ … and that’s official. It has been chosen as the venue to host the FIRST-EVER ‘North West Monopoly Championships’ which take place on Sunday 18th November and will be played on all four of the region’s very own Monopoly boards.

“The Lowry, which has just taken up residence on the top square on the new Manchester board is now the region’s Mayfair of the North,” says the Regional Monopoly Championships promoter Graham Barnes.

“It was the public’s choice to occupy the traditional ‘Mayfair’ spot on the new Manchester board and it was the clear choice among international Monopoly Moguls to stage its first ever Regional Championships.”

Among the 24 contestants young and old competing for the inaugural Championship is:

  • Monopoly mad Alex Cook, 11, from Allerton, Liverpool, who says: “I’ll be giving the grown-ups a real run for their Monopoly money”, and
  • Self-confessed ‘Monopoholic’ James Hitchen,13, from Bolton who says: “I can’t wait to beat the grown-ups!”

The event’s promoter Graham Barnes adds: “We have seen Alex and James play and they are very good and among the favourites to win the inaugural Championships.”

The Championships will be played on:

  • The new versions of the unique two ‘Manchester’ and ‘Lancashire’ Monopoly boards hit shop shelves for the first time on Wednesday October 31st &
  • The FIRST EVER ‘Chester and Cheshire’ board, launched Wednesday October 31st
  • The ‘Liverpool’ board The Lowry is the Mayfair of the North/

Of the brand new ‘Chester and Cheshire’ board Mr Barnes adds: “This rounds off Monopoly representation for the north-west region – many say we have left the best county till last.”

The winner of the Championships passes go to collect £200 worth of Monopoly goodies – including a special Monopoly cake for Christmas - and entry to the prestigious England finals.

It’s not just the counters (hat, dog, boats etc) on the Monopoly board that are silver at The Lowry – the stunning building has inspired local designer to create a range of jewellery exclusively for The Lowry. More details on this unique jewellery will follow shortly. This stylish silver jewellery makes an ideal Christmas gift, along with The Lowry’s gift vouchers or tickets to one of the two dazzling Xmas shows – The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.
