The Lowry Wins 3 Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards

  • Best Visiting Production
  • Best Dance
  • Best Comedy

Today at the glittering award ceremony in the Midland Crowne Plaza Hotel, it was announced that The Lowry had won Three Manchester Evening News Theatre awards.

Two out of the three nominations for Best Dance went to shows at The Lowry but the winner was Birmingham Royal Ballet for their fabulously festive The Nutcracker which performed to sell-out audiences last Christmas.

Three out of the four nominations for Best Comedy went to shows at The Lowry and was won by Dave Gorman for his show Are you Dave Gorman? Dave Gorman can be seen at The Lowry again on Friday 18th Jan with his show 'Better World'.

For best winning production, The Lowry received a staggering 4 out of the 6 nominations and the winner was Pilot Theatre's production of Lord of the Flies, which toured to The Lowry this Autumn.

The Lowry's Theatre programme received an outstanding number of nominations (14) for the prestigious MEN Theatre Awards, more than any other venue in the region.

Robert Robson, The Lowry's Theatres Director comments: "We are deeply honoured and privileged to have received so many nominations and awards. It is testimony to the quality of theatre that The Lowry is offering to a growing North West audience. It also demonstrates our range and internationalism with The Lowry's theatre productions coming from as far afield as Japan, France and the United States. We believe that we are setting a new agenda for the arts, showing a new face of Salford to the world."

With over a million visitors in our first year, the Building of the Year award and numerous other accolades, The Lowry has come a long way since it first opened its doors on 28th April 2000. Its success reflects the quality of people's experience of the building and of its theatre presentations, exhibitions, conferencing, education and outreach activities.
