New Chairman for The Lowry's Operational Company

The Lowry, the hugely popular and award-winning visitor attraction has appointed James Wallace as Chairman of its Operational Company, which is responsible for the day to day operation and running of the Lowry.

James is a well-respected North West businessman. He has spent 30 years of his working life at Pifco Holdings plc where he was Deputy Chairman and until 1994 the Financial Director. James is a strongly commercial individual with astute management skills and a keen interest in business. He also has an excellent track record of working effectively in a non-executive capacity in international businesses. In January of this year he was appointed Chairman of Bodycote International plc and in May joined the Board of Holidaybreak plc.

Felicity Goodey CBE has been involved with the Lowry project from its very inception and will continue as Chairman of The Lowry Trust. She was instrumental in the recruitment of the Chairman for the Operational Company and said that "James demonstrates an attractive combination of deep business expertise, a sensible business judgement and an adaptable easy working style, which we believe would fit well with The Lowry and the different constituencies within it".

The Lowry Chief Executive, Julia Fawcett said: "James has both the accountant's eye for the detail of the financial statements but also a lot of experience of relating this financial detail to physical facilities and their relative operating efficiency and effectiveness. The Lowry project is extremely complex and we look forward to his valuable contribution to the operational aspect of the Lowry business."

James is very enthusiastic about The Lowry as he is particularly interested in the performing arts and believes that at this point in his career "it is the right moment for him to put something back into society" James also comments: "That a great deal has been achieved in the short time since the creation of The Lowry and it is well placed to provide a growing wealth of culture, education and entertainment for everyone.
