“With more comedy, more music and a whole series of first-tour West End and Broadway hit shows, our autumn and Christmas season is packed with really outstanding entertainment.

“The West End comes to The Lowry with a string of award-winning recent comedy hits, including The Graduate, the completely outrageous Olivier Award-winning The Lieutenant Of Inishmore, and the totally original The Play What I Wrote.

“Add a contemporary up-date of classic Salford comedy Hobson’s Choice and Northern Stage’s simply astonishing Animal Farm and we think we’ve got the most appealing and varied programme of hit plays on offer anywhere.

“We’ve got an exceptionally strong line-up of comedy performers too, including Dave Spikey, Men In Coats, Mackenzie Crook, The Bradshaws, Mark Steel, and, to put you in the mood for a schmaltzy Christmas, Simply Barbra, with a wickedly satirical seasonal offering.

“Top choice for family entertainment this Christmas must be our brand new pop pantomime version of Peter Pan, starring Paul Nicholas and, also over Christmas, we are really excited to have secured the brilliant Boy George musical Taboo, a simply brilliant show that received a standing ovation at every single sold out performance during its London run”.

“For the first time, we aren’t staging a version of The Nutcracker for Christmas, but we are very pleased indeed to have secured the wonderful Matthew Bourne Nutcracker! for a special engagement in November, a truly spectacular Hollywood-style extravaganza from the man who created the all-male Swan Lake and The Car Man.

“Other dance of particular note includes the return of Rambert Dance Company with an all-new programme, and the enormously popular Stomp!, which sold out here last year.

Scottish Opera’s Ring Cycle - sold out almost as soon at it was announced - is our biggest event of the autumn but don’t let that overshadow the fine programme from Opera North, who, among other great productions, are bringing their much-acclaimed La Traviata.

“All that, plus a huge variety of popular music, ranging from Kate Rusby, The Oldham Tinkers and The Tiger Lillies, to Bjorn Again, Jane McDonald and Puressence.

“We think it’s another great season with something for everyone to enjoy and I look forward to seeing you here and sharing it with you.”
