A stunning Odissi* and Kathak* dance presentation led by the magnificent dance duo Nirupama and Rajendra. The dancers have absorbed the beauty and choreographic styles from eminent Indian gurus. They are young performers of rare quality and create new dimensions in traditional dance forms. *Odissi is the Indian classical dance from the Eastern state of Odissa and *Kathak is a North Indian style of classical dance.

**Sakhi

National premiere.
Sakhi is the term for friend, a special and intimate space celebrated in Indian performance, painting and literature. This elaborate performance project celebrates female friendship and the space shared by woman friends, where the male is present only in reference or in the imagination.

An exquisite ancient dance form performed by an internationally renowned dancer. Odissi is the oldest Indian classical temple dance from eastern India and Monalisa Ghosh is one of its leading exponents. Experience the charm of this beautiful traditional dance, complete with live music.

**Shakti

A rare and beautiful selection of classical dance pieces by dancer/choreographer Deepa Ganesh, director of Upanasa UK. Interpretations of Shakti, or Power, are presented, always preserving the thread of reverence. Ganesh is a dedicated artist and teacher, student of some of the finest gurus of India and a national research scholar.

Anand Yatra

Dazzling colours, scintillating rhythms and breathtaking dances as Milapfest presents Anand Yatra – the South Asian Folk Dance Festival. Following on from the popular Dance Yatra festival at The Lowry in 2002, this event presents the finest young performers in a special preview show, followed by an evening with outstanding international artistes, including Bhangra, Garba and Kathak. An event you won’t want to miss!
