Watershed Productions present
MIDNIGHT by Jacqueline Wilson
- adapted and directed by Vicky Ireland MBE
The Lowry, Salford Quays, Greater Manchester
Wed 1 – Sun 5 June
Watershed Productions return to The Lowry with a new adaptation of highly acclaimed children’s author Jacqueline Wilson’s Midnight. This will be the third Watershed production of a Jacqueline Wilson novel at The Lowry, following successful tours of Double Act and Bad Girls in 2003 and 2004.
Jacqueline Wilson is one of Britain’s most popular and critically acclaimed writers for children and young people with 20 million book sales to her name. She featured four times in the BBC’s 100 Favourite Books (The Big Read) and recently topped Catherine Cookson as the most borrowed author from English libraries.
Midnight is a mysterious and intriguing story for slightly older readers – mainly 9 to 13 year olds - although older and younger fans will also be enthralled.
“I heard a clock chime far away. It was striking midnight. I looked out into the night and made my wish.”
12 year-old Violet has plenty to wish for. She wishes Will, her loving but controlling older brother, would be kinder to her – sometimes his games are just too cruel. She wishes beautiful, charismatic Jasmine would be her friend for ever. Most of all, she wishes she could meet her favourite author, Casper Dream. Surely Casper Dream, who creates such magical fairy stories, could conjure up a solution to all her problems?
