With famous melodies and a sparkling story, this is Donizetti's most popular comedy. Poor Nemorino yearns for the lovely Adina but her eyes are on the smooth-talking sergeant. A travelling salesman guarantees his magic elixir will make Nemorino irresistible – and it does! But was it the elixir - or the news that Nemorino is not so poor after all?

Nabucco
By Giuseppe Verdi
Thu 6 & Sat 8 October
Nabucco is based on the story of Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian king who enslaves the Hebrews and proclaims himself a god. The opera includes Verdi’s most famous chorus, Va, pensiero, the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, but it is by no means the only musical highlight of an opera that is driven by the raw energy of Verdi’s youthful, abundantly tuneful score. A fine cast, including Alan Opie as Nabucco and Susan Patterson as Abigaille, has been assembled for these special concerts. With its splendidly brassy orchestration, exciting solo vocal writing and, above all, its magnificent choruses, Nabucco is the epitome of Grand Italian Opera at its most impressive.
Concert performance.
Sung in English.

Time Eves 7.15pm
Tickets £9.50 - £25
