POPULAR MUSIC AT THE LOWRY SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER 2005

 An array of mainstream music talent arrives during our amazing autumn season, kicking off with the return of legendary singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading, dropping in on a rare UK tour. Off the stage there is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take guitar lessons with a member of legendary band, The Smiths.

Some of the country’s most prolific and popular songwriters join the impressive line-up not least an appearance from the ever popular Paul Carrack to perform all of his best known hits. Completing the sensational selection of shows are Bjorn Again, the infamous ABBA look and sound-alikes promising to bring some sunshine to a cold winters night.

Guitar Courses with Andy Rourke

Andy Rourke is teaching beginners guitar and budding composer courses this Autumn, as part of the development of the Lowry Academy, a major new initiative involving a rolling programme of practical arts activity for all ages, complementing the work of the theatres and galleries

The hugely influential and pioneering British singer-songwriter returns for a rare UK tour. Her recent album Lovers Speak is the latest in a long line of fabulous releases that include Show Some Emotion, To the Limit and Me, Myself, I. She remains an utterly compelling writer and performer of unique warmth and will be playing material from throughout her stunning back-catalogue.

Ruby Turner - So Amazing Album Tour

One of Britain’s finest soul singers, Ruby has been busy co-writing, recording and touring as guest solo artist with Jools Holland and starring in the acclaimed West End musical, Simply Heavenly. Now, she is delighted to be performing songs from her new album, So Amazing, as well as many of her previous hits, including I’d Rather Go Blind and If You’re Ready.

Nils Lofgren
Mon 24 October
The legendary American songwriter and virtuoso guitarist, famed for his appearance on Neil Young's After The Goldrush, as a superb front man with Grin and long time member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. Here he performs an acoustic set with Buck Brown, the hugely accomplished keyboard player. Expect classics such as Take You to the Movies, Back it up, Keith Don’t Go and many others.

Paul Carrack

The voice behind world-wide hits such as Ace’s How Long, Squeeze’s Tempted and Mike and The Mechanics’ timeless classic, The Living Years, Paul Carrack returns with a full UK tour to perform all the hits, plus highlights from an extensive back catalogue, including It Ain’t Over.

Glen Tilbrook and the Fluffers plus support

November As the voice, face and songwriter from Squeeze, Glen Tilbrook is synonymous with quality pop songs. Now, with his band the Fluffers, expect to hear new songs from his recent album Translantic Ping-Pong, plus many of the classic Squeeze songs, including Labelled with Love, Coffee in Bed, Goobye Girl, Annie Get Your Gun and Take me I'm Yours.

On the Beach with Björn Again - 2005 Autumn Tour

The end of the year is fast approaching. It's wet and cold and foggy and people quite naturally start dreaming about a holiday in the sun. But this year you don't need to travel overseas to have a great time on the beach – because Björn Again will bring the beach to you! All your favourite ABBA songs are rebjörn!
