BOLSHOI BALLET SETS NEW BOX OFFICE RECORD VIA EMAIL
The internationally renowned Bolshoi Ballet, performing at The Lowry for the FIRST TIME, from 4 – 8 April 2006, has sold more tickets than any other show through ‘mylowry’, The Lowry’s free email advance notification system.
Tickets went on sale 2 weeks ago, only to ‘mylowry’ customers, resulting in a record number of sales for the best seats, generating over £40,000 in the box office.
Featuring over 200 of the world’s greatest dancers, together with the equally famous Bolshoi Orchestra, audiences will enjoy two of the most enduring classics in the company’s repertoire – Yuri Grigorovich’s beautiful production of the greatest of all ballets, Swan Lake and Spartacus, his celebration of male dancing at its most spectacular.
Robert Robson, The Lowry’s Artistic Director commented “It’s absolutely wonderful to once again bring one of the world’s finest ballet companies to the North West. We are increasingly international in outlook and pride ourselves on our role of presenting original and high-profile work in the region.”
Anyone can register with ‘mylowry’ by visiting www.thelowry.com and clicking on Advanced Notice or go direct, www.thelowry.com/mylowry and expressing interest in information for particular types of shows, exhibitions and activities. My Lowry customers receive advance notice of performances at The Lowry that are confirmed before information appears in the next seasonal brochure. The Bolshoi Ballet and Edward Scissorhands will be in The Lowry’s next seasonal brochure (Jan – Apr) which will be available from early November. Subscribers can also control their own customer data.
Last week, ‘mylowry’ customers were the first people notified to be able to buy tickets for Matthew Bourne’s magical new adaptation of the classic Tim Burton film Edward Scissorhands (21 – Sat 25 Feb). A fairytale for all the family, Edward Scissorhands tells the story of a boy created by an eccentric inventor - a boy with only scissors for hands. After his creator dies however, Edward is forced to live among the local community. Edward Scissorhands features music by Danny Elfman, who has worked with Tim Burton on numerous films including Batman, Big Fish and 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
After Matthew Bourne’s global success with his inspired Swan Lake, Nutcracker!, Highland Fling and Play Without Words, all big hits here at The Lowry, this latest production is sure to be one of the hottest tickets of the year.
