Moscow State Circus
Clowns, Acrobats and Russia’s Strongest Man appear in the exhilarating new show from
The Moscow State Circus
The Moscow State Circus returns to the UK with a brand new show featuring a 35 strong cast of Russia's greatest and most flexible circus performers, visiting The Lowry, Salford Quays from Thursday 16 – Sunday 19 February.
As traditional circuses become a rarity throughout many parts of the world, the newly devised show from a company rich with 200 years heritage promises to build on The Moscow State Circus’ enviable reputation for memorable laughs, thrills and spills. Amongst the many highlights in store, audiences can expect to witness the awesome power of Russia's strongest man, Bakhrom Akhnazarov, who has the unique claim of walking away unscathed after a 2.5 tonne vehicle has driven over him.
There are a wide variety of talented performers with jugglers, trapeze artists and extreme balancing acts to name just a few. The Slavos are a springboard troupe, brimming with talent and raw energy, who literally catapult across the stage. Members of the troupe will perform unique tricks only ever seen in this act, including five backward somersaults from the springboard.
The Andrey Mikheev Troupe show off a dizzying display of aerial gymnastics and breathtaking balancing action which defy gravity and the laws of physics. To provide the laughter between the awe inspiring feats are the award-winning clowns Igor Vorob'ev and Andrey Mashonkin, who have perfected the art of slapstick and cunning caper.
Russian Circus received 70 years of massive support under the communist regime, however, in recent times, the fall of communism has thrown this massive cultural organisation into disarray, and its future is uncertain; could this be the last ever tour of The Moscow State Circus?
