South Asian Events at The Lowry

September – December 2007


This season The Lowry brings you even more amazing music, dance and theatre from South East Asia. After a sell-out run at the RSC, the breathtaking theatrical production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream combines the astonishing skills of performers from India and Sri Lanka. The folk festival, Anand Yatra, returns as well as the Indian festival of light, Diwali Dhamaka.

An evening of colour, energy, passion and uplifting dance performed by Salford Schools, Balbir Singh and Diversity Dance’s newly formed fusion ensemble of dancers.

Sitar’s Undiscovered Maestro
Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee is known for the quality and lyricism of his sitar playing, here accompanied by his prodigiously talented son, Bijoyaditya Mukherjee.

Anand Yatra – folk dances of India
After a sell-out show in 2005, the popular folk dance festival returns, with colourful, captivating and joyous performances.

Bhakti – Faith in Music
Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, India’s leading vocalist and a master Guru of many other musicians, presents a musical journey of songs and compositions.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
By William Shakespeare. Directed by Tim Supple. A sell-out sensation in India, London and Stratford, this unique theatrical event arrives at The Lowry prior to a World Tour Performed in seven Indian languages and English.

Diwali Dhamaka
Celebrate the Indian festival of light, with colourful dances, food, music, exhibitions and a stunning firework display.

India Dance Days
Experience the colour and culture of India in these lively dance workshops, covering Indian classical, folk, contemporary and Bollywood dance.
Most suitable for ages 10+.
Times Session 1 10am -11.30am Folk Dance; Session 2 11.30am - 1pm Classical; Session 3 2pm – 3.30pm Indian Classical, Session 4 3.30pm – 5pm Contemporary
