Girls Behind

A girl band with a difference…

GIRLS BEHIND

by Louise Roche

The Lowry, Mon 3 – Sat 8 September 2007
Press Night: Mon 3 September

Interviews are available with Maureen Nolan and Sue Devaney

Girls Behind is the sensational new musical comedy about singing trio, The Diamonds, starring Maureen Nolan who knows all about being in a group as member of one of the original girl bands ‘The Nolans! Hot on the heels of the hugely successful visit to The Lowry of Girls Night, writer Louise Roche returns with another night of laughter and tears, and some knock-out anthems sure to have you up on your feet!

Stacked full of wit, charm and outrageous commentary on all things female, Girls Behind also stars one of the country’s best loved comic actresses, Ashton-under-Lyne’s very own Sue Delaney. Sue is famous for her role in hit BBC comedy Dinnerladies and previous long term parts as paramedic Liz in Casualty, and sister Rita in Johnny Briggs. Making up the trio is winner of Channel 4’s TV series Musicality, Donna Hazelton, who will knock everyone’s socks off with her powerhouse performance.

The Diamonds have been friends since school. Lois (Donna Hazelton) is a bit stuck up (to say the least!), Sadie (Maureen Nolan) is tough but has a soft centre, and Serena (Sue Devaney) is … well… just a ‘bit’ nervous. Ten years on and they still meet every Friday night to sing at The Star Club. Twenty years on and they still go through everything together – the highs and lows of their relationships, their family triumphs and of course their tragedies. But just what happens to friendship when one is pushed into the limelight and the others are forced to sing backing vocals?

Louise Roche’s poignant storyline packs a real punch and with three of the country’s favourite singers and comic actresses breathing life into brilliant one-liners and timeless classic songs like Think, Man! I Feel Like A Woman and Misty Blue, an extra special night of entertainment is guaranteed.
