Press Night: Thu 20 September

If you were under the impression that the only thing to happen on 1 April 1982 was the beginning of the Falklands War, then you would be mistaken. On the very same day an earthquake hit the Isle of Anglesey, tearing it away from Wales, leaving Hugh Hughes unable to escape the island as planned. Hugh sails over to The Lowry with his award-winning production of Floating on Thu 20 September to tell the tale of Anglesey’s nautical expedition.

Along with his unique charm, Hugh and his friend Sioned illustrate their hilarious journey of adventure with film footage, a powerpoint presentation, audience interaction and lots of imagination! Since its première in 2005, Floating has won a Total Theatre Award and enjoyed a sell-out run of performances in New York as part of the Welsh Week for St David’s Day. Rumour has it that the audiences in New York were so captivated by Hugh’s story that they actually believed that Anglesey had set sail on its voyage across the Atlantic!

Fresh from the Edinburgh festival, Hoipolloi and Hugh Hughes provide The Lowry with a mythical gem of a production which mysteriously borders between fact and fiction and is certainly not to be missed.

“Charming, surreal, warm-hearted…a piece of genius.” The Scotsman
