Stomp

The Lowry, Tue 29 January – Sat 2 February
Press night: Tue 29 January, 7.30pm
Stomp the, award winning theatre sensation, is set to wow audiences at The Lowry from Tue 28 January to Sat 2 February.
With its unique combination of theatre, dance, comedy and percussion Stomp finds beauty and music in the mundane. The eight performers use boots, bins, brooms and everything including the kitchen sink to hammer out an explosively feel-good rhythm. The junk and clutter of life becomes the source of infectious rhythm and wonder.
Stomp was created in 1991 as the result of a collaboration between Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas who had worked together performing street comedy at the Edinburgh Festival.
In its lifetime Stomp has consumed over 60,000 boxes of matches, 40,000 brooms, 30,000 bins, 30,000 drumsticks and 35,000 litres of black paint applied with 1,137 paint rollers.
Between 1991 and 1994 the original cast of Stomp played to capacity audiences around the world: from Hong Kong to Barcelona, from Dublin to Sydney. The touring culminated in a sell out season at London’s Sadler’s Wells theatre in January 1994, where Stomp received an Olivier nomination for Best Entertainment and won Best Choreography in a West End show.
Its growth has been such that it has seen more than 10,000 performances in front of more than eight million people in 42 countries.
There are currently four Stomp companies performing worldwide, one on tour in North America, another throughout Europe and the rest of the world, one in New York (now in it’s 13th year) and one in London (now in it's 6th year).
