Award-winning dance company return to The Lowry…

Henri Oguike Dance Company
Mixed Bill

The Lowry, Salford Quays
Press Night: Wed 6 February, 7.30pm

Renowned for his vigorous, intricate and strong sense of musicality, dancer and choreographer Henri Oguike and his company of seven dancers return to The Lowry on Wed 6 February. Winner of Jerwood Choreography Award and Time Out Award, the four dance Mixed Bill includes world premières of Touching All and All Around. Both of these latest creations feature a series of solos and duets and the Mixed bill is completed by Green in Blue and Little Red which both premièred in 2007 to public and critical acclaim.
Green in Blue is Henri Oguike’s first foray into jazz and was created in collaboration with the internationally renowned saxophonist and composer Iain Ballamy. Ballamy and three leading jazz musicians will perform Green in Blue live at The Lowry. By contrast, six female dancers and two of Vivaldi’s magnificent violin concertos breathe fire into Little Red.

Born in West Glamorgan, Nigerian/Welsh choreographer Henri Oguike studied music, drama and dance at Swansea College. He went on to train at the London Contemporary Dance School and danced with 4D, its postgraduate performance group and later with the Richard Alston Dance Company. He then founded his own company in 1999, which quickly made an impact, picking up the Time Out Live Award for ‘Most Outstanding New Company’ in 2001.

Henri’s work regularly features music and composers from diverse musical genres ranging from baroque to contemporary. As well as impressing with his own company, Oguike has been commissioned to make pieces for Phoenix Dance Theatre, Transitions Dance Company and National Youth Dance Wales of which he is Artistic Director.

The Lowry season of dance also welcomes back the British theatrical sensation Stomp, Richard Alston Dance Company, and NDT1. We’re also delighted to welcome the first visits for La la la Human Steps, Beijing Modern Dance Company, Bonachela Dance Company and Fabulous Beast. And last but certainly not least, dance legend Sylvie Guillem will be joined on stage by Russell Maliphant for a mixed programme of solo pieces and duets in PUSH. The Lowry is offering a special multi-buy opportunity for 2 or more dance shows this season with tickets at £10 per seat.
