Invisible Bonfires
Maestros of comic cine theatre…
Forkbeard Fantasy presents
Invisible Bonfires
The Lowry, Wed 27 February – Sat 1 March 2008
Press Night: Wed 27 February, 7pm
One of the longest running touring theatre companies in the UK, Forkbeard Fantasy, tackles the thorny issues of climate change and global warming in their latest comic film-theatre extravaganza, Invisible Bonfires. Starring the irrepressible Brittonioni Brothers as guides, with live music from The Lotus Pedals (of Homelife fame), Invisible Bonfires will combine surreal comedy, film, cartoon, 3-D projections and a horse at The Lowry from Wed 27 February.
The earth is spinning at 1,040mph on its axis and revolving around the sun at 18.5 miles per second in a Solar System which is travelling through the Milky Way at 185 miles per second. As passengers on this incredible journey we seem to have forgotten how our spacecraft works. Forkbeard Fantasy hire a metaphorical grandstand on the Moon to investigate the invisible chemical cloak currently smothering the Earth, guaranteeing a refreshing new racket in the hot air crisis enveloping our melting world.
Founded in 1974 by brothers Chris and Tim Britton, with designer Penny Saunders, Forkbeard’s renowned trademark has been to pioneer the mix of live stage action with film sequences, whereby the actors cross the celluloid divide. Their endlessly inventive use of film, mechanical stage trickery and insatiable appetite for the comic and absurd, are supplemented in this new spectacle by two hilarious new Forkbeard Films. Cartoon Carbon Weevils examines the evolutionary role of those supreme excavators and re-arrangers of the Earth’s carbon deposits, human beings, plus a roller-coaster stage to screen documentary starring the gloriously pompous Brittonioni Brothers.
