The Lowry presents the North West première of the award-winning smash hit homage, Eurobeat – Almost Eurovision (Sarajevo), in the week counting down to the annual celebration of all things kitsch and camp, the Eurovision Song Contest. Welcome to Sarajevo, where Boyka (Mel Giedroyc, Loose Women) and Sergei (Gareth Hale, Hale and Pace) host the euro-phoric competition, beginning on Mon 19 May until Sat 24 May.
Introduced on screen by the King of Eurovision himself, Sir Terry Wogan, from the comfort of his BBC studio, Eurobeat is a high-energy musical like no other, packed with hilariously satirical songs, glamorous costumes and crazy contestants. Audiences are whipped into a nil-points frenzy as ten countries compete for their vote with wholly original, spoof songs. An interactive musical like no other, audiences can tactically vote to their heart’s content, by backing their favourite entrant via text message to help crown a different winner every night.
Avid fans of the Euro-extravaganza can even enjoy the fun twice in one night - if they set their video or digital recorder! On the evening of the official song contest, Sat 24 May, audiences can join the cheering and flag-waving at this sensational new homage to the event, before watching the results of the actual contest in the Terrace Bar at The Lowry. Then they can still watch the entire televised contest when they get home!
Winner of the inaugural MTM Best Musical Award 2007.
‘If you hate The Eurovision Song Contest go and see Eurobeat, if you love it, go and see it twice!’ David Fry, Head of Theatres Programming at The Lowry
