Cattle Call

The Lowry, Tue 6 – Wed 7 May 2008
Press Night: Tue 6 May, 7.30pm

Leeds-based company, Phoenix Dance Theatre, return to The Lowry on Tue 6 May – Wed 7 May with Cattle Call, an explosive theatrical event to challenge and entertain. A work of live dance and music/visual theatre, Cattle Call takes inspiration from the term used within the theatre profession to describe the open audition process.

Cattle Call is a stylish collaboration between the Olivier Award-winning team of choreographer Javier De Frutos, who won the award for Best Theatre Choreographer in 2007 for hit West-End musical Cabaret, and composer Richard Thomas (co-writer and composer of Jerry Springer – The Opera) whose Olivier was awarded for Best New Musical 2004.

This project provides a rare opportunity to see Phoenix in a full-length production with eleven phenomenal dancers. The company ventures into new waters, incorporating more theatrical elements and drawing on the influence of Richard Thomas, recently back from his New York staging of Jerry Springer – The Opera in Concert at Carnegie Hall. Alongside the dancers, Cattle Call features live musicians and singers, creating a fully ensemble performance including original Jerry Springer cast members Loré Lixenberg and Adey Grummet.
