New Connections

The Lowry, Tue 6 – Sat 10 May 2008
Press night: Tue 6 May, 6.30pm

The Lowry will play host to scores of local young performers and producers in one of 15 regional showcases across the country for New Connections, one of the world’s largest celebrations of youth theatre, from Tue 6 – Sat 10 May.

New Connections, produced by the National Theatre and supported by Bank of America, commissions new plays for and about young people from some of the best contemporary playwrights for performance by schools and youth theatres from all over the UK and Ireland.

This year, 11 groups will be performing a range of exciting new plays at The Lowry. Television Workshop Nottingham will be performing He’s Talking by Nicholas Wright. This group of young actors have previous acting experience as they appeared in the BAFTA award-winning film, This is England.

The Lowry is one of seventeen theatres across the country that hosts regional New Connections Festivals in May every year. Ten productions are selected from the nationwide festivals to be performed in July at the National Theatre in London.

Produced by the National Theatre, NT Connections is one of the world's largest celebrations of Youth Theatre, established twelve years ago in response to widespread demand for challenging new plays for young people to perform. Hundreds of schools and youth theatres take part, supported with writing workshops and professional performance advice from their regional theatre as well as the National Theatre.
