Horrible Histories

The Terrible Tudors & Vile Victorians

The Lowry, Tue 1 – Sat 5 July 2008
Press Night: Tue 1 July, 7pm

Terry Deary’s Horrible Histories, the stage show that makes history fun for kids, returns to The Lowry due to public demand. It’s part of another great week for children concluding on Sat 5 July with The Lowry’s children’s festival Stage Frights and Other Stories.

Using actors and ground-breaking 3D special effects Horrible Histories is a thrilling adaptation of Deary’s books with historical figures and events from the Tudor and Victorian periods coming alive on stage.

In The Terrible Tudors the audience will see the legends (and the lies!) of the torturing Tudors, find out the fate of Henry Vlll’s headless wives & dodge the Spanish Armada’s cannon balls which seem to shoot straight out over their heads.

In The Vile Victorians they’ll discover if they could have survived the filth of the 19th century factories and the misery of the mines. They’ll find out what a baby farmer did and be taken on a ride on the rotten railway, its slums and sewers, ghosts and graveyards all the way plus some seriously silly music hall songs and get to take part in the charge of the Light Brigade too.

Stage Fright and Other Stories presents a feast of family entertainment across the whole building. There will be frightful fun with The Terrible Infants and Talking Pants in the Quays Theatre. For those ready to boogie, Music Baby! with DJ Scruff, is the new dance party sensation for toddlers and parents. In the foyer, visitors can enjoy music by the Ordsall A capella Singers and Indian dancers. Five to eight year-olds will enjoy Tell Woman, a fairytale taking place in the landscape of a gigantic skirt. Three year olds and older will love the captivating puppet show Mystery of the Sock Snatcher plus all the colouring and other messy capers in the classrooms.

The action continues with singing and dancing workshops, the Circus Minimus and the chance to become an art detective. And for those wanting a break from the action there is always the family corner where under-fives can draw, read and play in peace.

Please note while some events are free at Stage Fright and Other Stories , places are limited and a ticket is required. Please contact the Box Office to book your tickets on 0870 787 5970 or Book Online www.thelowry.com
