Pop-up:
Around the world
Sat 27 September 2008 – Sun 15 March 2009
Exhibition at The Lowry
See the Taj Mahal, the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower & more POP-UP at The Lowry!
The Lowry explores the magic of pop-up with a fun and original exhibition displaying art work by some of the world’s leading illustrators including Robert Sabuda and paper engineers who have taken inspiration from cities around the world.
Designed and themed on ’Around the world in 80 days’ with its tagline ‘see everything in the world worth seeing!’ this vibrant exhibition shows 3D versions of iconic landmarks from across the globe.
The city as a subject is a continual source of inspiration for artists and this special exhibition takes a fascinating look at this theme through the inspiring and enchanting world of pop-up. From the Eiffel Tower and Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum to Buckingham Palace and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, visitors will enjoy a dramatic and surprising journey around the world.
Ideal for families, this unique exhibition also provides an insight into the creation of pop-up art work helping to increase understanding of this magical artform. An area in the exhibition is dedicated to creative activity aimed at encouraging visitors to make their own pop-up’s. Workshops for youths, adults and family will accompany the exhibition.
The City of Salford will also be represented by local artists who have participated in a creative project with The Lowry. They have learnt how to make a drawing quite literally leap off the page and created pop-up’s of Salford landmarks. These Salford landmarks, including The Lowry (dubbed Salford’s Guggenheim) will be displayed in the galleries as part of this original exhibition.
