Budding actresses will get the chance to follow in the footsteps of Judy Garland as The Lowry begins a search for a star. The winner will take the part of Dorothy in the Christmas musical - The Wizard of Oz - starring alongside Lorna Luft, Judy Garland’s daughter. The nerve-jangling selection process will all take place under the eye of BBC TV North West who will televise the progress of the candidates.

Talented wannabees aged over 16 will need to pass three auditions to be considered for the role. The first auditions are being held at The Lowry on Mon 1 September at 10am. Those attending will be required to sing a song with no backing track and if selected will attend a dance audition the following day. If chosen at dance auditions, the hopefuls will do script auditions the next day. Lorna Luft will select Dorothy from the final five live on the BBC North West Tonight on Wed 3 September.

The judges will be Viv Wells, the show’s producer, David Fry, The Lowry Head of Theatres programming and actress Tara Wells.

Rehearsals for the Wizard of Oz start on the 17 November and Dorothy will be required for performances from Sat 29 November 08 – Sun 4 January 09. For more information, please email Pele Productions on pele.pro@btconnect.com.

With magnificent special effects, including a dramatic tornado and a flying witch, Dorothy and Toto are transported from their everyday, monochrome world on the farm in Kansas, to Munchkin City in the colourful land of Oz.
