International star at Coronation Street

Pictures available

International star Lorna Luft, Judy Garland’s daughter, swapped the yellow brick road for the cobbles of Coronation Street today as she took a break from performing in The Wizard of Oz at The Lowry.

Lorna explained,
“I’ve been watching Coronation Street for years and I’ve realised a long-held ambition today coming on set to meet some of the stars. I’m hoping to have a drink in the Rovers Return. Now that would be the best Christmas present ever.”

Lorna jumped at an invitation from Antony Cotton (Sean Tully) and William Roache (Ken Barlow) to visit the street and the world famous Rovers Return.

Antony Cotton commented,
“I grew up with a love of the old Hollywood musicals and I adore Lorna’s music. It’s been a real treat to have her visit the street”.

Wizard of Oz is on at The Lowry until Sun 4 January. Based on, and faithful to, the classic Judy Garland film, all the famous songs and characters are there. Dorothy, the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion, singing such hits as We’re Off To See The Wizard, Follow The Yellow Brick Road and of course the unforgettable, Over The Rainbow.

With magnificent special effects, including a dramatic tornado and a flying witch, Dorothy and Toto are transported from their everyday, monochrome world on the farm in Kansas, to Munchkin City in the colourful land of Oz. Featuring lavish costumes, energetic dance routines and stunning laser effects.

Lorna Luft’s acclaimed career spans all facets of the entertainment industry. A versatile performer, she has found success as a vibrant concert singer, recording artist, motion picture, theatre and television actor, best-selling author and producer. Born to legendary entertainer Judy Garland and producer Sid Luft, she began her career at age eleven on her mother’s TV show and has flourished ever since.
