Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story has had audiences on their feet in every corner of the globe and now it’s back at The Lowry this January on a farewell tour to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the day the music died.

On 3rd February 1959, as the world was perched on the most exciting musical decade in history, the young genius who made it all possible was tragically killed in a plane crash, aged just 22, leaving behind a legacy of over 30 timeless hits.

“Of all the music heroes of the time, Buddy Holly was the most accessible and he was the real thing... He was one of us” - Eric Clapton

Buddy follows the tragically short life of the star from his first recording contract through to his move to New York, concluding with his fatal tour of Midwest America with Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Buddy sings his way from the recording studio in Nashville Tennessee to Harlem’s Apollo Theatre, culminating in a live rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza at the ‘Winter Dance Party’ finale. The show features over 20 of his greatest hits including Peggy Sue, That’ll Be The Day, Oh Boy, Rave On, Heartbeat and Raining In My Heart.

Seen by more than 20 million people at over 16,000 performances worldwide, Buddy introduced the concept of the rock ‘n’ roll musical to the West End and setting the benchmark for subsequent successful shows, such as Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You. With over a dozen major nominations and awards behind it, including two Olivier’s and a Tony, the show is now in its 20th year.
