The critically acclaimed Russian Ice Stars combine Olympic-standard skating with the magical world of circus arts in a world first, creating a new, thrilling and unforgettably spectacular ice show. The Warrington-based company bring 33 of the world’s most talented performers to The Lowry from Wed 18 February for Cirque de Glace, a new genre of live entertainment.
Award-winning contortionist Valeria Murzak performs high above the ice alongside her mother Svetlana, on the Cloud Swing. Valeria previously wowed audiences at The Lowry with her aerial performances in pop pantomime Aladdin and Eclipse – Circus Musical. For the first time ever a four strong Russian Bar team perform over a real ice surface, relying on years of training to avoid serious injury in one of the most dangerous circus disciplines.
Three times British Figure Skating Champion John Hamer (from 2005-2007) joins the Russian Ice Stars as a special guest for this amazing production, performing with the world’s tallest ice skater, Andrey Chuvilyaev, who at 6’8” creates the world’s highest lifts with skating partner Svetlana Kouprina.
Choreographed by leading Italian choreographer Cavalieri Giuseppe Arena (Opening Ceremony Winter Olympics Turin 06) knighted for his services to Dance by the Italian Government. Tim Routledge (Beijing Olympic Closing Ceremony) provides a spectacular lighting design complemented with special effects from top New Zealand effects designer Chris Wilkes, rounded off with state of the art video projection.
